In my last post, I wrote that I was going through a run of bad luck.
All right, the lost passport and injured shoulder were my own fault. The sore throat less so, because I wore a hat and took care of myself, except perhaps for that one time I sat by an open window.
But why the hell, I ask, are they closing the gym in my neighbourhood?
I moved back to New Forstadt (formerly Pervomaika) specifically so I could go to the best gym in the city, apart from the one in the centre. And then the owner/trainer, whose name is Ivan, tells me that the rent and attendance are such that he has barely been making ends meet for months and cannot go on like this. This is certainly not my fault. But in the long term, it is worse for me than everything else combined.
It is also important to mention that I usually criticize capitalists. But I mostly mean megacorporations and other greedy bastards, not small business owners—I support them, on the contrary. For example, my internet provider is a small company called richnet , rather than the monopolists Dautkom or Lattelkom.
And the megacorporations have resurfaced yet again because they grabbed a load of government money. I will not say “let them burn,” as is fashionable in American liberal circles, but why do small businesses get no support?
Admittedly, it may be that the owner is not enterprising enough and has not considered every option. On the other hand, there is a crisis now, and for some reason companies from Riga are not coming here—apparently the market is not large enough. At this point, I am even prepared to sell out to the capitalists—let the likes of https://web.archive.org/web/20090201000448/https://www.cityfitness.lv/ come here with their outrageous prices of 57 lats a month.
P.S. And where the fuck, I ask, is the fucking IMF with its enormous loan to Latvia? Nowhere to be found when it is needed.
P.P.S. Fortunately, there is still the swimming pool; it is in a school, so there is a chance it will not be closed.
